Social Justice

The Parish Social Justice Group

The parish has an active Social Justice Group which meets regularly and to which all parishioners are welcome.

Meeting Date: 2nd Monday of each month.

Meeting Time: 7.15pm for a 7.30 start - 9.00pm.

Meeting Place: Alternates between the different Church Communities of the Parish. See the Church Bulletin for the specific place each month.

The Social Justice group is committed to the social teachings of the Church and follows the process of See, Judge Act.

While the meetings respond to the concerns of the individual members some common concerns are:

  • A partner project with Temor Leste (Contact - Leo Ward)
  • The Millennium Development Goals - Make Poverty History (Contact - Phil Jones)
  • The "Sharing our Story, Sharing our Land" Project with local Indigenous Australians (Contact - Anne Lanyon)
  • Justice for Palestinians (Contact - Leo Ward)
  • Fair Trade (Contact - Phil Jones, Anne Lanyon)
  • Homelessness (Contact - Margaret Gallagher)
  • Mental Health (Contact - Noel Braun)
  • Care for the Environment/Climate Change (Contact - Phil Jones, Anne Lanyon)

Our Primary Schools are also involved in a project in support of the Homeless. They are seeking willing contributors to a collection of toiletries destined for those in need.

We maintain contact with the Diocesan network of Social Justice Groups, "SJ around the Bay".
